Want to Be Heard on the Debt-Ceiling Issue? Here's How to Contact Congress

Contact Rep. Jim Gerlach, Sen. Robert Casey or Sen. Pat Toomey.

"I'm asking you all to make your voice heard," President Obama said in a speech about national debt ceiling talks Monday. "If you want a balanced approach to reducing the deficit, let your member of Congress know."

Below is information about how to get in touch with your elected officials, along with a statement from each of them on the issue.

Here's how to get in touch with Rep. Jim Gerlach (R), whose district covers Narberth and Lower Merion:

On the issue: "House Republicans want American families to be confident that Washington will not be digging deeper into their pockets to support a spending habit that has been out-of-control for too many years. We want employers to be confident that Washington will not be imposing new burdens that make hiring more difficult. And we want the world to be confident that the United States will continue meeting our obligations while getting serious about controlling spending."

On the issue: “It is unfortunate that some in Washington have chosen to continue putting partisan gamesmanship ahead of the economic needs of our country. Government spending must be cut and the deficit must be reduced. However, this should be done through shared sacrifice—not on the backs of those who could least afford it. Powerful special interests should not be exempt while Medicare and working Pennsylvanians are targeted."

And here are the steps to contact Sen. Pat Toomey (R):

- Call his Washington office at 202-224-4254
- Call his local office at 215-241-1090
- Send him an email here by filling out a form.

On the issue: "I am extremely disappointed that President Obama and the Democrat leadership have chosen to engage in demagoguery and political scare tactics instead of engaging Congress in a solution that will actually solve our increasingly dangerous debt problem. Over the course of the next week, I urge the president to work with Congress to find a solution that puts our federal government on a path to a balanced budget and helps drive economic growth."
