A History of The Woman's Club of Bala Cynwyd: A Lecture by the Lower Merion Historical Society and Lower Merion Conservancy

When The Woman’s Club of Bala Cynwyd was founded by suffragettes in 1912, the organization did not have a home. That did not prevent its early members from organizing and funding construction of the first library in Bala Cynwyd or becoming a vital support for the community.

As the organization celebrates 100 years, The Woman’s Club aims to continue its mission as a community center for the arts and civic engagement, but faces mounting repairs to its historic 1926 clubhouse on Bala Ave. The organization’s Centennial Campaign aims to raise $100,000 to support its building’s needs in the next year.

Those interested in supporting The Woman’s Club can learn more about its rich, impactful and colorful history by coming to its glorious ballroom at 382 Bala Ave. in Bala Cynwyd for a free special Lower Merion Historical Society and Lower Merion Conservancy event on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. Jerry Francis of the Historical Society and Lori Salganicoff from the Conservancy will give a lecture that will illustrate its civic-minded history, including efforts to support local soldiers, refugees, children and the sick or infirmed.
