Mr. Harriton Contest Raises $10,000 for Charity

Junior Brendan Scanlon won the high school's fifth annual competition.

The fifth Annual Mr. Harriton contest played to a standing-room-only audience Friday night. The student-produced competition brought five seniors and five juniors to the stage in competition to win the 2012 Mr. Harriton title and the $200 first prize. Outweighing the personal achievement and reward was the more than $10,000 the event raised for Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia and honoring senior contestant Austin Wortley, who is battling non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

The theme of this year's program, Road Trip, had each contestant representing a different city in the United States. The senior contestants and their cities were:

  • Stephen Kline (Denver)
  • Zak Kivitz (Los Angeles)
  • Jordin Metz (San Francisco)
  • Ilias Storti (Philadelphia)
  • Austin Wortley (Boston)

The junior contestants were:

  • Mohin Banker (Dallas)
  • Matt Brown (New Orleans)
  • Louie Colella (Las Vegas)
  • Robby Latoff (Chicago)
  • Brendan Scanlon (New York)

Scanlon won first place, followed by Banker and Brown in second and third places.

The contest was a success on several levels. It raised money for chariity, had students involved in every aspect of the production on- and off-stage and entertained a full house of students and parents.

We captured a few highlights of the show for our gallery.
