National Merit Honors Local Students

Schools around the region are applauding their students for being named Semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation honored more than 200 local students among approximately 16,000 national semifinalists in its 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

To qualify, about 1.5 million juniors took the Preliminary sat/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test during the last school year. The number of semifinalists in Pennsylvania is proportional to the Keystone State’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

Those honored as semifinalists are the highest scoring students in Pennsylvania.

Semifinalists must submit a detailed application to become a finalist. National Merit scholars are selected from the list of finalists.

Below is a list of local schools and how many National Merit Semifinalists were honored from each school. The National Merit Scholarship Program cautions against making comparisons between high schools or educational systems based on these numbers.

“The program does not measure the quality or effectiveness of education within a school, system, or state,” according to its press release.

No lies or distortions whatsoever ... read the facts: 1- WCASD has failed AYP while T/E has made AYP http://paayp.emetric.net/District/SchoolList/c15/124157802 2- T/E has far exceeded WCASD in the ACT results this year http://westchester.patch.com/articles/act-results-compare-local-high-schools-cfc85a28 3- WCASD has finished at the bottom of every nationwide school competition is has entered in the last two years http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/05/20/america-s-best-high-schools.html http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/features/2011/americas-best-high-schools.html 4- T/E has one school which has produced 4 times more semifinalists in the 2013 national merit scholarship program, than every WCASD school combined. http://westchester.patch.com/articles/national-merit-honors-local-students?logout=true

Please don't pay attention to 'Star Thrower'! Her real name is Tanya Ciolka and is a member of the PA Conservative Council that has ties to Sean Carpenter. She has a website called www.midnightbluesays.com and is also a member of the Tea Party. She is from Philadelphia, is 40 years old, and still lives with her mother! Thats all you need to know about her so please do not pay her any attention.

So why are you so against WCASD? I don't see why you are directing so much negative energy towards a school district that has nothing to do with you? Did Sean Carpenter put you up to it? Why do school board members in WC love to get radicals involved?

Star is on a roll today. Don't you know that Steve and Roxy and Edufan are all the same person - that will come out soon I am sure at the rate this individual is going. We are all here to conspire against this reasoned judgment. (Extreme sarcasm on my part) Everyone in the community who posts must be a teacher as nobody who isn't can support the schools. I for one am about sick to death of any community member who believes are schools are doing a fine job being lambasted here by this person. What is clear to me is that the posts are far more in support of the district and its fine work. So know we get one very sick soul who will resort to accusing people of multiple personalities to defend themselves from the support the community clearly shows for a fine school system. I don't have to be a teacher to think my kids get a good education. I do not have to be a teacher to support public education. I do not have to be a teacher to look at facts and figures and see the reality. Just like as a Catholic I do not believe all priests are pedophiles and forgo my faith. Do you get it yet? I am sure not. I know I should not lose my temper, and it is not even that I am really angry it is more utter and total disgust at those who would hijack our district for their narrow agenda when the reality of the discussion in the community - and I am part of the functioning community tells me otherwise.

Could it be this person is just the mouthpiece for Sean? I notice Mr. Carpenter has been very quiet of late. So is this the latest ploy - use someone else to do the talking?
