Negotiations Continue Between LMSD, Staff

The last contract for 1,300 Lower Merion Education Association workers expired June 30.

Lower Merion School District's administration and largest staff union, the Lower Merion Education Association, negotiated throughout the past week on terms of a potential new contract, representatives of both sides told Patch.

LMEA represents about 1,300 school employees, including teachers, whose last contract expired June 30. They are currently working under the terms of that deal but pursuing a more favorable arrangement.

Chris SantaMaria, the union's president, and district spokesman Doug Young both told Patch via email that the two sides did not reach an agreement in Monday's scheduled negotiating session but that talks would continue.

That was a change from the previous negotiations, held in late August, after which no new talks were immediately scheduled.

SantaMaria said LMEA members will meet Wednesday, Oct. 10, either to consider a new agreement—if the two sides have reached a tentative accord by then—or to "discuss what our next steps will be."
