Lower Merion School District and its teachers and staff have yet to come to terms on a contract to replace the two-year deal that expires June 30, representatives of the district and union said this week.
District spokesman Doug Young declined to comment about ongoing negotiations. Lower Merion Education Association president Chris Santa Maria said an "all-day session of bargaining" May 24 produced agreement on minor issues, but not on salary or medical benefits. The union is in a new contract.
No further talks have been scheduled, Santa Maria said.

In June 2010, a five-year contract expired for the roughly 1,300 teachers and staff in LMEA, who worked all summer under the provisions of the old deal before a new accord was reached. That would happen again if negotiations last into the new fiscal year, Santa Maria said.
The union president said in an email to Patch he would pursue "substantive talks with the district" over the summer, adding, "I am hoping that the school board is as committed as we are to getting this done before the new year is scheduled to begin in September."
