State School Rankings: Lower Merion is 15, Harriton 25

Conestoga was ranked the highest on the Main Line.

Lower Merion High School ranked 15th in the state in the 2014 U.S. News & World Report rankings, released this week, while Harriton High School was No. 25.

Perennial winner Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia again ranked first.

Nationwide, Lower Merion is the 840th best high school, U.S. News said, and Harriton is 1,031st.

Nearby, Conestoga High School was ranked No. 5, Radnor High School came in at No. 8 and Great Valley was No. 10.

Each year, U.S. News joins forces with the American Institutes for Research to evaluate schools on overall student performance on state-mandated assessments, as well as how effectively schools educated their black, Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students.

Performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams is used to determine the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work. 

Schools were ranked within each state, as well as on a national stage.
