Young Bala Cynwyd Filmmakers Can Join Competition

With the Academy Awards just behind us, the Philadelphia area's Oscar winners of the future are being asked to submit their films to the 2011 Greater Philadelphia High School Film Festival.

The festival is free to all of the area's youth (must be enrolled in a greater Philadelphia-area high school) and all submissions will be showcased at the film festival on June 25 - 26.

Registration forms for the festival can be found online at the Filmtech school website and must be completed by March 15. All films are due by May 15.

"It's free for the kids to submit a short film, and any film that's submitted will be screened at the festival," Dominick DeFino, director of the film festival said in an email. "It's a fun way for teens to collaborate on a creative project this spring."

Each filmmaker may recruit a team of up to four members to produce, shoot and edit a short film up to 15 minutes long. Prizes will be awarded to the top movies in three categories—music video, drama and comedy or documentary.

Tickets to the film festival are $9 in advance or $12 at the door.
