LM Commissioners failed the taxpayers.

LM Commissioners did not act in the best interest of all the taxpayers in Lower Merion

I am very distressed that the Commissioners voted to spend $325,000 to purchase a vacant piece of land for possible use in the next decade.

How dare they?

Many people with mortgages find themselves underwater - that means that the money they owe is more than the property is worth.  And yet - the commissioners are giving the owners of this property a HUGE profit.  WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM?

I keep remembering the advice that Deep Throat gave to Woodward and Bernstein - to follow the money.  I'm not making any accusations of wrong doing.  But it would be nice if a higher legal authority investigated just to see if any hanky-panky is happening.

How is it possible that this little piece of undeveloped ground could have appreciated so much after the housing bubble burst?

There is NO justification for spending $325,000 to purchase a vacant piece of land for POSSIBLE use in the next decade.  There are many other ways that a spare $325,000 can be spent in Lower Merion -increase trash collection, decrease trash fees, increase street cleanings, DECREASE our taxes.  The seller will receive a windfall profit.  His purchase was at the top of the real estate bubble and now, many people cannot even get the amount they owe on their property when they try to sell it.

The 2011 election is over.  But we have LONG memories.  We will remember who foolishly threw away our tax dollars when the next election cycle comes.
