Ardmore's Bernard Pierce Carjacked in Overbrook

Bernard Pierce had a great rookie season with the Baltimore Ravens. His offseason has been a little rockier.

Ardmore-native, and 2013 Super Bowl champion, Bernard Pierce was robbed in Overbrook on Sunday, Main Line Media News is reporting

According to the publication, Pierce, driving an $80,000 BMW, stopped at a pizza shop on the 7400 block of Drexel Road with a friend at approximately 5:30 p.m. The details are hazy, as police told MLMN there was no surveillance footage of the crime, but it seems a blue sedan pulled up next to Pierce's car and two men got out, one carrying a black revolver.

Pierce handed over his keys, wallet, and phone, and the man got into his BMW and drive off, with his accomplice tailing him in the sedan. The running back was uninjured in the crime.

Police haven't established a motive yet, but according to Baltimore Ravens blog Baltimore Beatdown, Pierce's mother believes her son was targeted for his wealth.

"I think he was targeted because people knew who he was, and that's sad," she said. "He lost everything-- everything was taken. It could have turned out to be a whole different ballgame. He's good. He's healthy."

Pierce grew up in Ardmore and attended Lower Merion High School until he was expelled his sophomore year for getting into a fight. He finished high school at Glen Mills, before accepting a scholarship to play running back at Temple University. Pierce was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2012 NFL draft, and finished second on the eventual Super Bowl champions in rushing yards.
