2 p.m. update: PECO is reporting there are between 500 and 1,500 outages throughout Montgomery County. However, Narberth officials are aware of none in the borough, and Lower Merion officials are reporting only traffic light outages on Lancaster Avenue in Rosemont.
The 5:30 p.m. meeting of Lower Merion's Cable TV Committee has been canceled because of the heat.
Posted 10 a.m.: The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 99 on Thursday in Lower Merion and Narberth.

A few things to know about the heat:
- 99 degrees would match the Philadelphia area's hottest recorded temperature for the date June 21 since records were first kept in 1873.
- Lower Merion Township announced Thursday morning that playground programs in the parks would end early, at noon, because of the heat, and that parents would be notified.
- Narberth does not begin outdoor summer programs for children until next week.
- The public pools in and are open from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday.
- Montgomery County has a Hot Weather Health Warning in effect through 8 p.m., during which county officials do extra checks on senior citizens' safety.
- As of 10 a.m., PECO was reporting fewer than 50 customers without power throughout Montgomery County.
- Showers and thunderstorms are expected Friday, with a high temperature of 94.
