Visit Cemetery for Resurrection of Old-Timey Baseball

West Laurel Hill and Bala Cynwyd Park will host an event July 8.

Need something to do the weekend after July 4? Curious about the origins of baseball? Keen to see some outlandish old uniforms?

and are hosting a presentation and demonstration by the Athletic Base Ball Club of Philadelphia Sunday, July 8.

The club re-enacts baseball as it was played (and clad) in the Civil War era. Members will talk about the history and nuances of the early game, starting at 11 a.m. in the Bringhurst Funeral Home.

Visitors then will tour the graves of several famous ballplayers on the West Laurel Hill grounds.

Then, at 1 p.m., the club will play a double header at the park, across Belmont Avenue from the cemetery.
