Five Ways to Help a Good Cause This Holiday Season

Here are some local options for those in the mood to donate.

We offer five good ways to help others this holiday season in Narberth, Bala Cynwyd, Belmont Hills and Penn Valley, but we want your suggestions added in the comments section below, too. Read on:

  1. Give food. Every Monday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Narberth Community Food Bank accepts donations at the , 206 Price Ave. For those in need, it is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For questions about what to donate or how to volunteer time, email gigiandrick@comcast.net.
  2. Help a house of God. Narberth-Bala Cynwyd Patch is home to more than a dozen synagogues and churches that direct countless endeavors to help the community. Look through Religious Institutions in the Patch Places directory to find links to websites with event information.
  3. Look out for your older neighbors.  performs a variety of services to help seniors. Click on the organization's name to reach the website, then click the tabs for Giving and Volunteering on the right side of the page for more information.
  4. Help the crusade against a disease. Headquartered in Narberth,  is dedicated to fighting Guillain-Barré Syndrome and CIDP, or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. It provides patient literature, networking and research among other services.
  5. Give a Hanukkah gift to Golden Slipper. The Bala Cynwyd-based , founded by Jewish Masons in the 1920s, sponsors a variety of local charitable programs, including emergency assistance to families, college scholarships, youth camps and meals and activities for seniors. Online donations are accepted.
