Library Patrons Can Now Reserve DVDs

An online system helps residents grab the films the have been wanting to see

A brand new system at Lower Merion libraries will now allow all residents with a library card to put checked out DVDs on hold, just like they would with a book.

The new system will allow patrons to more easily pick up movies they have been wanting to check out, except for those DVDs which were newly added to the library shelves, which will still be on a first come first serve basis. See more details below in the township press release.

"Movie lovers, rejoice! One of the benefits of the Lower Merion Library System (LMLS) joining the Montgomery County Library and Information Network Consortium (MCLINC) at the start of 2011, was the ability to request reserves on DVDs. 'The DVD reserve requests may be placed by library users who access their Polaris accounts through the LMLS website at www.lmls.org. This works just as it does for any other reserve,' said Chris Steckel, Director of Libraries.

"Here's what you need to know:

  • Reserves for DVDs are $0.50, but all other reserves remain at $0.25. This fee is charged when the item is picked up.
  • New DVDs to the Lower Merion Library System are not eligible to be reserved until they have been in rotation for at least three months.
  • All reserves, whether DVD, book, or audiobook, are held for three days. If not picked up during that period, they are returned to the shelf or passed on to the next person on the reserve list. The reserve fee is still charged even if the item is not picked up.
  • Lower Merion DVDs may be checked out for seven days. If they are returned late, the fine is three dollars per day.
