BB Gun-Carrying Student Disciplined at Bala Cynwyd Middle School, Principal Says

No one was injured; an eighth-grader reportedly faces charges in juvenile court.

A Bala Cynwyd Middle School student brought a BB gun to school Thursday, prompting a police response, principal Jason Potten announced on the school's web site and in a letter to parents. Main Line Media News reported an eighth-grade student was arrested and will face charges in juvenile court. Potten's letter reads as follows: Earlier today, we received information that a student was in possession of an air gun ("air-soft BB gun") on school property. We immediately located the student, who turned over the air gun to administrators. We explained to the student in no uncertain terms that NO weapons of ANY kind are permitted on school property, regardless of whether they are legally obtained and/or perceived to be a "toy." Bala Cynwyd Middle School Principal Reflects on Retirement

Margery Andersen is leaving her job in June.

Bala Cynwyd Middle School principal Margery Andersen is retiring from K-12 education this summer, and she really doesn't know how to feel about it. "I'm kind of getting used to the idea. It's not something I'm thrilled about," Andersen told Patch in a recent interview. "They tell me that you come to a a point where you're driving to work and you think you just don't want to do this anymore. I can honestly say that's never happened to me." Bala Cynwyd Middle School Mourns Teacher Cecilia Peterson

Funeral services are set for Thursday.

Bala Cynwyd Middle School teacher Cecilia Peterson has died, the school district announced Monday on its website and in a letter to staff and student families. Peterson, 44, died Friday at Abington Hospital, according to her obituary by Angelone Funeral Home in Abington. A letter from BCMS principal Margery Andersen described a "positive and welcoming" teacher who had been with the school since 2001. Peterson taught seventh grade. "Ms. Peterson’s joy for life and her love of teaching could be seen daily at Bala Cynwyd," Andersen wrote. "In her classroom she was always excited and expressive about the literature and topics that she was teaching her students."
