No one was injured; an eighth-grader reportedly faces charges in juvenile court.
A Bala Cynwyd Middle School student brought a BB gun to school Thursday, prompting a police response, principal Jason Potten announced on the school's web site and in a letter to parents. Main Line Media News reported an eighth-grade student was arrested and will face charges in juvenile court. Potten's letter reads as follows: Earlier today, we received information that a student was in possession of an air gun ("air-soft BB gun") on school property. We immediately located the student, who turned over the air gun to administrators. We explained to the student in no uncertain terms that NO weapons of ANY kind are permitted on school property, regardless of whether they are legally obtained and/or perceived to be a "toy." The student's …

Margery Andersen is leaving her job in June.
Bala Cynwyd Middle School principal Margery Andersen is retiring from K-12 education this summer, and she really doesn't know how to feel about it. "I'm kind of getting used to the idea. It's not something I'm thrilled about," Andersen told Patch in a recent interview. "They tell me that you come to a a point where you're driving to work and you think you just don't want to do this anymore. I can honestly say that's never happened to me." Still, after 41 years in education, 20 years at BCMS and four as principal, "I figured it's time to let somebody else do this," Andersen said. "I have grandchildren now. They live in California and Vermont; I'd like to spend more time with them. My mother's getting older; there are parts of the world she'…

Funeral services are set for Thursday.
Bala Cynwyd Middle School teacher Cecilia Peterson has died, the school district announced Monday on its website and in a letter to staff and student families. Peterson, 44, died Friday at Abington Hospital, according to her obituary by Angelone Funeral Home in Abington. A letter from BCMS principal Margery Andersen described a "positive and welcoming" teacher who had been with the school since 2001. Peterson taught seventh grade. TO GLEN KRAMER: Back in the 60's many of us could leave our doors unlocked, but those days are LONG GONE. I too, took up fencing in the 60s at high school. I wish things were the way they were back then, but sadly, they are not. That was 53 years ago and we have more and new threats to deal with. For your information, while the police were arresting a juvenile at the Middle School, you say the …   more ›
