2 Thefts from Saks Fifth Avenue, Police Say

Plus, a theft from Joe's Crab Shack in this week's blotter.

Lower Merion police reported the following incidents to news media at a Monday briefing. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction. Retail theft: A 22-year-old Broomall man was cited for retail theft on April 1 at Saks Fifth Avenue in Bala Cynwyd after stealing a pair of $200 sunglasses, police said. Store security told police they saw the man remove a pair of Rayban sunglasses from the display case, remove the sensor and place them in his pocket, according to the report. When the man left the store, security was waiting and took him into custody, after which he was turned over to police. Joe's Crab Shack Starts Serving Seafood in Bala Cynwyd

Doors opened at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

A long line of customers entered the new Bala Cynwyd seafood restaurant Joe's Crab Shack as it opened for business Tuesday morning, some of them saying they'd waited outside the building since Monday. The first 100 customers got vouchers for a free snow crab bucket every month for a year. Joe's Crab Shack is in the building that was renovated after a fire forced the Houlihan's restaurant to close in May 2011. The restaurant will open at 11 a.m. and close at midnight or later seven days a week.

Joe's Crab Shack Opening Announced

The seafood restaurant replaces Houlihan's in Bala Cynwyd.

Joe's Crab Shack is days away from debuting in Bala Cynwyd, a little more than a year after the prior tenant of the space, Houlihan's, closed permanently after a fire. The seafood restaurant will open at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at 555 City Ave., the company announced Friday. The fourth Joe's Crab Shack in the state, it will employ 170 people and accommodate 366 diners. Visitors to its website can check out the restaurant's menu. The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce will cut a ribbon to the restaurant 15 minutes before the opening, after which the first 100 patrons will get vouchers for a free bucket of snow crab every month for a year, the company announced. New Steel Goes In At Joe's Crab Shack

The Bala Cynwyd restaurant is due to open in mid-2012.

A construction crew at the future Bala Cynwyd Joe's Crab Shack on Tuesday arranged steel beams as it replaced part of the building's support structure. The seafood restaurant is due to open in July, a little more than a year after a fire on the site severely damaged the Houlihan's restaurant, forcing its permanent closure.

Joe's Crab Shack Plans July Opening in Bala Cynwyd, Official Says

The restaurant will replace Houlihan's, which closed after a fire.

The seafood restaurant Joe's Crab Shack is expected to open in July at City Avenue and Presidential Boulevard, City Avenue Special Services District president Terrence Foley told Patch Monday.  A construction crew has been stripping out the interior of the space vacated by Houlihan's after a fire in May 2011.

As Houlihan's is Dismantled, Future Joe's Crab Shack Seeks Managers

The restaurant space caught fire eight months ago.

An interior-demolition crew has been busy inside Bala Cynwyd's former Houlihan's restaurant, which closed after a fire last May and is set to become a Joe's Crab Shack. Houlihan's signage remains in place on the building. Joe's Crab Shack has been advertising openings on Craigslist's Philadelphia site for "Restaurant Managers and Assistant General Managers" with three to five years of experience.
