Former Ace to Play Basketball for Villanova University

Darryl Reynolds was a key player on Lower Merion High School's 2011-2012 state runner-up squad.

"Darryl Reynolds '12 will head down Lancaster Ave. to continue his athletic and academic career at Villanova University!!! ... Congratulations and best of luck to Darryl as he takes this exciting next step!!!" The news came Tuesday afternoon from Aces Basketball on Facebook and Twitter: Reynolds, a key member of Lower Merion High School's 2011-2012 state runner-up team, would be playing his college ball on the Main Line for the Villanova Wildcats. Before Reynolds made his announcement Tuesday at LMHS, the team site posted the following recap of his career: Reynolds, a 6'8 forward, helped lead the Aces to the 2012 state finals and an undefeated Central League campaign. Do Local Colleges Require Gym Credits?

A recent study looks at the number of colleges that require gym classes and the affect of physical activity on education.

  According to a recent study by Oregon State University, the number of colleges and universities that require physical education classes is at 39 percent, a historic low. The study looked at data from 354 randomly selected four-year universities and colleges, beginning in the 1920s when 97 percent of institutions required physical education classes. "Brain scans have shown that physical activity improves the area of the brain involved with high-level decision making,” said Brad Cardinal, lead author of the study. “In addition, we know employers often are concerned about employee health, in part because physically active employees attend work more and tend to perform better." Villanova 'Nuisances': LMPD Stats Show a Student Problem, Commissioner Says

Township and university officials have convened to discuss nightlife behavior.

Villanova University students committed the majority of Lower Merion Township's 'nuisance offenses' in the past three months, and the school must do a better job with discipline, one township Board of Commissioners member said at Monday's meeting. Of 186 arrests for disorderly conduct, public urination, public intoxication and underage drinking in August through October, 110 involved Villanova students, Commissioner Scott Zelov said, citing data researched by Capt. Bill Boegly of the Lower Merion Police Department. "That is just about 60 percent, which can not continue," said Zelov, who represents the area of Bryn Mawr—a pub-packed stretch of Lancaster Avenue—where most of those arrests typically happen. To sayitasitis 123 (Art): As much as I think something has to be done about this illegal activity by some VU students, it is illegal for the bars and pubs to stop serving VU students at any specific hour if they still serve others. Local Colleges Rank High on Forbes Top Colleges List

See where area schools rank on Forbes list of Top Colleges.

Philadelphia area college fare well on Forbes' America's Top Colleges list. Swathmore did the best among local schools with the University of Pennsylvania not too far behind. Haverford College's rank would have been higher, according to Forbes, but there was a data error. (Click here for more on that story.) Bryn Mawr College and Villanova University round out the rest of the local schools making the top 100. Local colleges overall ranking: Forbes ranking were based on the following criteria: Quality of teaching, great career prospects, high graduation rates and low-levels of debt. What Do Local Colleges Cost?

Find out what tuition, fees and room and board will cost you for 2012-2013 at a number of suburban Philadelphia school.

  The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education this week approved a 3 percent tuition increase for the 14 state schools, including West Chester University for the 2012-13 academic year. The total tuition cost for a full time, resident undergraduate student will be $6,428. Taking into account additional fees, room and board, the average total cost for a state university is about $16,000, said PASSHE spokesperson Kenn Marshall. So, what do other local colleges cost?
