Belmont Hills Pool Membership Deadline Approaches

Fees go up after Friday, April 19 and again after May 17.

The deadline is approaching to purchase a Lower Merion Township pool membership, the township announced this week. Fees increase after Friday, April 19 and again after May 17. Lower Merion residents and Narberth residents can join either the Belmont Hills pool or the Ardmore Avenue pool, and pay by check, cash or money order made out to "Treasurer, Lower Merion Township." The fee schedule is attached to this article.

At $625 for a Narberth family of four (after May 20), that same family can pay per visit 25 times before they reach the membership level. Frankly, most families rarely go that many times each season. So save some money and pay per visit. Also, you'll save some money for the handful of visits when the pool is closed because of an the all-too-frequent vomiting/BM accidents. $222 Million School Budget Up for Vote Tuesday

Here are five things to know this week for those with an interest in Narberth, Bala Cynwyd, Belmont Hills and Penn Valley.

1. The Lower Merion Board of School Directors will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the administration building's first floor board room (301 E Montgomery Ave, Ardmore). A vote on the preliminary 2013-14 budget is among the agenda items.  View the agenda. 2. The borough of Narberth is soliciting applications to serve on its three-member Shade Tree Commission, which has one vacancy. Debates This Week Over Narberth, Bala Cynwyd Redevelopments

A heads up for those who live or work in Narberth, Bala Cynwyd, Belmont Hills and Penn Valley.

1. Narberth's Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at borough hall to hear from the prospective buyer and redeveloper of the United Methodist Church of Narberth property. Borough officials say the applicant's intent is to preserve but renovate the church and parsonage while also putting two homes between those buildings and Price Avenue. The borough council meets at 8 p.m. Monday. 2. PIAA District 1 basketball playoffs begin this weekend. ForAAAA programs (the state's largest), the opening round for boys is Friday, Feb. 15, and for girls Saturday, Feb. 16. $39K in State Grants Given to Local Fire Companies

Narberth-Bala Cynwyd Patch's local fire companies received funding from the state recently.

Narberth-Bala Cynwyd Patch's area fire companies each received grant money in the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner's Volunteer Fire Company, Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program (VFCVAS). The State Fire Commissioner's Office reviewed the 2,713 applications and approved 2,665 applications for 2012-2013. The final distribution to fire companies, statewide, totaled $26,400,000 and for volunteer ambulance services totaled $3,600,000, according to Office of the State Fire Commissioner. Below is what each local company received and requested: Narberth Ambulance, based in Ardmore and Conshohocken, also received a grant, getting $5,590.57 after requesting $8,405.

The first draft of Narberth's proposed new zoning code will be presented Monday at the borough's 7:30 p.m. Planning Commission meeting. Find details of the zoning overhaul at the Narberth Civic Association's website. Developers of a future Belmont Avenue CVS pharmacy are presenting a preliminary land development plan to the Lower Merion Planning Commission at Monday night's meeting. The item is No. 6 on the agenda; the meeting is set to start at 6:30 p.m. The Lower Merion School District is also approaching the township's Planning Commission Monday night, with plans for renovations at Gladwyne Elementary School.
