'Can I Help You?' Homeowner Confronts Burglars on Staircase

It happened Thursday afternoon on Levering Mill Road in Bala Cynwyd, and no one was hurt, Lower Merion police say.

Two young would-be burglars fled a Bala Cynwyd home empty-handed Thursday afternoon after encountering the homeowner on a staircase, according to Lower Merion police.

About 1:15 p.m. Thursday, a resident on the first block of Levering Mill Road called 911, police said at Monday's weekly media briefing. She reported that she unexpectedly ran into two black males on her staircase, one in a gray shirt and one in a dark shirt, who both appeared to be of high-school age.

"Can I help you?" she asked them, according to police, and the pair fled the house immediately. No arrests have been made.

Officers determined the burglars had broken glass in the rear door and forced it open to enter the property. Nothing was stolen.

Anyone who has information about the burglars in this incident may call police at 610-649-1000.
