Bala Cynwyd AM Sports Radio Station 610 WIP Taking Over 94.1 FM Signal

Morning anchor Angelo Cataldi and colleagues announced the move Thursday morning. It takes effect Sept. 6.

The Bala Cynwyd-based sports radio station WIP, which for decades has broadcast on 610 AM, will on Sept. 6 begin also using the 94.1 FM signal, WIP personalities announced about 9:45 a.m. Thursday.

94.1 has been the longtime home of Center City-based classic rock station WYSP, WIP's sister station at .

"We will have access to more ears than we've ever had before and, we'd like to believe, an opportunity at a time when sports is percolating in this town like never before," said Angelo Cataldi, WIP's morning program anchor. "We are thrilled to be able to make this announcement today."

Cataldi's colleague Anthony Gargano announced a revamped WIP program schedule, triggered in part by afternoon drive-time veteran Howard Eskin leaving his daily program.

The morning lineup (until 10 a.m.) remains intact, with Cataldi, Al Morganti, Rhea Hughes, Joe Conklin, Ricky Bottalico and Keith Jones.

Gargano and Glen Macnow move from middays to a new slot at 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

"We're taking over the king's throne. It's very difficult to follow Howard Eskin, who I grew up listening to," Gargano said.

Eskin's erstwhile partner Ike Reese will anchor 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with newcomer and Newtown Square resident Michael Barkann, who will retain his television anchor duties at Comcast SportsNet, he said.

"You'll be printing money with those two jobs," Cataldi told Barkann on air.

Replied Barkann, "Well, you're printing money. I'll just go to your mint."

Rob Ellis will follow Gargano and Macnow with a new show from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Gargano said.

"How incredible is this? '94 WIP'," Gargano marveled. "It's the most amazing thing to have WIP with that kind of power."

WIP's rival , led by former WIP man Mike Missanelli, bills itself as "Philadelphia's First FM Sports Station".
