Police Blotter: Thieves Hit Homes, Car, Cash Machine

The following information has been supplied by the Lower Merion Police Department. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

On Monday afternoon,  reported to news media the following Bala Cynwyd-area incidents from the past week:

  • Burglary: Between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, three laptop computers, three televisions, hard drives, a camera, cash and an undetermined amount of jewelry were taken from a home on the 100 block of Colwyn Lane in Bala Cynwyd after a door jamb had been damaged for entry.
  • Theft from building: Sometime between Monday, Dec. 5, and Friday, jewelry and cash were taken from a home on the 100 block of Fairview Road in Penn Valley. Doors had been left open numerous times in that period, police said.
  • Theft: An ATM user at the City Avenue accidentally left her card in the machine about 9 p.m. Friday, then discovered when she called her bank that someone else had withdrawn $60.
  • Suspicious vehicle: About 5 p.m. Sunday, a man was seen driving a white van back and forth from the area of the playground, last seen heading north on Levering Mill Road. Anyone with information about the van, which may have been a Honda Odyssey, should call police at 610-649-1000.
  • Theft from vehicle: A Nikon camera was stolen from a vehicle on the first block of Penarth Road in Bala Cynwyd overnight Sunday to Monday. It was unknown whether the vehicle had been locked.
