Rash of Bicycle Thefts Around City Avenue Prompts Police Warning

Several victims had not used locks.

Lower Merion police are warning residents to take more precautions with their property after several recent daytime thefts of bicycles, the department announced in an email bulletin.

The bikes have mostly gone missing from homes around City Avenue, police said, and were either not locked directly to structures or were stored in unlocked garages.

"Residents are encouraged to record the serial number and register your bicycle(s) with the Lower Merion Township Police Department, secure both wheels and lock your bike to an immovable object by means of a Kryptonite U-shape lock," police said in the alert.
