Mary Jo Daley, former 20-year member of Narberth Borough Council, has unofficially won the District 148 Pennsylvania House of Representatives seat being vacated by fellow Democrat Mike Gerber.
Daley won the general election Tuesday against Republican Mike Ludwig. With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Daley had garnered 58.5 percent of the vote (18,635 votes) to Ludwig's 41.5 percent (13,230 votes).
"I'm officially celebrating -- it just feels great," Daley said at a Montgomery County Democratic Committee watch party in Plymouth Meeting on Tuesday night. "There were so many people that were so helpful to me in doing this and I'm just so grateful. It was a short campaign but energetic."
Ludwig said in a text message to Patch, "I enjoyed meeting and talking to the voters about the issues facing our district over the last several months. I wish Mary Jo the best and hope she does well."
The 48,865 registered voters of the 148th include 24,058 Democrats and 17,822 Republicans.
Gerber announced in July he would not be seeking re-election. Local Democrats then nominated Daley to run in Gerber's place.
