Narberth Honors Retired Lieutenant, Plans Sewer Repairs

Narberth's mayor and council, as well as the Montgomery County District Attorney's office, honored retired Narberth Police Lt. Art Pavoni at Monday's council meeting.

Pavoni left the force in December after 28 years. He was the highest-ranking officer in the six-man department, whose chief is Mayor Tom Grady.

"I thought I knew a lot of people in town. ... Lt. Pavoni knows everybody in town," Grady said, presenting the lieutenant with an award of appreciation. "We appreciate everything you've done in the past 28 years."

Assistant district attorney Chris Maloney thanked Pavoni for his role in the county's drug task force: "The police department should reflect the values of the community, and what Art has done in his career exemplifies what Narberth is all about."

The borough expects to hire replacements for Pavoni and Officer James Conway, , in the spring.

In other business:

• learned her committee assignments from Council President Sam Quinn. She will chair the finance committee—as did her —and the economic development committee, also serving on the property committee and the health and welfare committee.
• The council decided to solicit bids for the replacement of 600 feet of sewer pipe on North Wynnewood Avenue.
• Borough Manager Bill Martin said the demolition of Rockland Avenue, most recently announced as likely to happen in the spring, may happen even earlier than that.
