Union Votes for LMSD Pact
Lower Merion's school board will vote next Monday night. Teachers and other staff have worked without a contract since June.
The union for Lower Merion School District teachers and other staff voted Monday night in favor of a contract agreement with the administration, Lower Merion Education Association president Chris SantaMaria told Patch.
The last LMEA contract expired June 30, and some 1,300 employees have worked under the old contract's terms since then.
The agreement is tentative until both the union and the school board vote in favor of it. District spokesman Doug Young told Patch the board will convene a special meeting at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in the administration building for that purpose.

Young said the administration is "very pleased to have reached a tentative agreement."
SantaMaria declined to comment on the margin of the union's vote or the terms of the deal until after the board votes.

In 2010, a five-year LMEA contract expired at the end of June, and the union and district did not agree on a new contract until mid-September.
That two-year deal featured 1.2 percent and 1.4 percent raises for staff in 2010-11 and 2011-12. All but 0.2 percent of each of those raises was applied to employee contributions to health care costs.
